Articulation Therapy
Articulation therapy in speech-language pathology focuses on helping individuals improve the clarity and accuracy of their speech sounds. It is commonly used to treat speech sound disorders, where a person has difficulty pronouncing certain sounds correctly, making their speech hard to understand.
- Phonological disorders: Patterns of speech errors (e.g., substituting one sound for another like "wabbit" for "rabbit").
- Motor-based speech disorders: Difficulty physically producing sounds, often seen in apraxia or dysarthria.
- Isolated sound errors: Difficulty pronouncing a single sound correctly.

Goals of Articulation Therapy
- Improving Sound Production: Help the individual produce target sounds accurately and consistently.
- Enhancing Speech Clarity: Reduce speech errors so that the individual is more easily understood.
- Building Confidence: Improve the person’s confidence in their ability to communicate effectively.
Articulation therapy is essential for individuals, particularly children, with speech sound disorders to improve clarity, ensure effective communication, and support social and academic success.
